“What other senses did you use?"
Swimming in the River-May 22, 2019
We went back to the Narrows today. This time, I got to swim and use the rope swing for a lot longer than yesterday. Before I swam, my group and I tested the different chemicals in a stream. We found that the stream was very healthy, but did not know about the bacteria content. After that, we went to the Nature Center and took pictures of four different birds; a screech owl, barn owl, red-tailed hawk, and a turkey vulture.
My favorite part of today was using my senses to explore nature. I got to feel the icy blast of the water that chilled me to the bone, and feel the squishy mud slide between my toes. I could smell animal droppings and the pollen from flowers. I got to see the plants, animals, and people that passed me. I could hear the sounds of birds and the yells of my peers as they landed in the water. I tasted my lunch after a long day of walking and swimming, each bite refilling my energy.
When we finished exploring, it was time to get back onto the bus. I was cold, wet, and tired, but I had never been more elated in my life. I got to spend all day with my friends in the woods and the river goofing off. We got our work done early so that we could spend the afternoon playing in the water.
Object Description
In the underbrush of a cluster of trees, there were a large group of bright purple flowers. The
flowers were in pairs of 1-3 and had black stamen protruding from the center of it. The flowers were very aesthetically pleasing.
