Day One of STEMmerssion 2019

Today was the first day of STEMmerssion 2019. Below you will find my first blog post for this two week period.

“What did you learn today about what it means to live deliberately?”

Living Deliberately-May 16, 2019

Today, we learned about living deliberately. To me, living deliberately means to make the most of every moment. It means to go-with-the-flow, to not allow the unexpected changes in life worry you. We cannot change things that have already happened and we do not have any control over the things to come. If we can understand this fact of life, we can start to accept that the present is more important than anything.

Today, we got to go outside and take pictures of the nature around us. I took a lot of pictures and my favorite one is above. For about 20 minutes, we walked around a small pond. I found many interesting plants to photograph. After everyone had finished, we sat on the grass and meditated. While I was sitting there, during the peaceful silence, I felt very happy and calm. I counted my breaths. Slowing down my breathing each time. In a three minute period, I took 30 breaths.

Living deliberately is a lot like being mindful. The definition of mindful is, "to be conscious and aware." My definition of living deliberately is very much the same. I really enjoy both, even though I was not aware of living deliberately before today. I hope that in the years to come, I will be able to continue my lifestyle and live deliberately through yoga, meditation, and mindfulness.
